FC Samartex secure historic qualification to Ghana Premier League
FC Samartex 1996 have sealed promotion to the Ghana Premier League (GPL) for the first time in the club’s history with three matches left to play.
Samartex finished as Division One League Zone Two winners following a 0-0 draw against Swedru All Blacks in match week 27 of the 2021/22 league season on Sunday.
The Samreboi-based club has 58 points from 26 matches prior to match week 27, with a game in hand for which the points have been forfeited in their favor pending official confirmation.
Samartex were reportedly awarded the points after their opponents failed to show up for the game which was scheduled to be played at Samereboi.
A 1-0 defeat for second-placed Ebusua Dwarfs at Nzema Kotoko – in one of the match-day 27 fixtures – ensured that Samartex open an unassailable 10-point lead and mathematically secured their place for the 2022/23 GPL.
The qualification to Ghana’s topflight is the first in Samartex’s history since their establishment in 1996.
FC Samartex will play Hasaacas next at home before the two remaining games against Future Stars and New Edubiase United FC.
Ebusua Dwarfs are currently second on the league table with 51 points from 26 games.
