Hertha coach Magath allowed Kevin-Prince Boateng to select his position against Augsburg

Former AC Milan midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng started a game for Hertha for the first time since October 2021 against Augsburg and his coach allowed him to pick a position.

He attacked, he tackled, and he organized. In a nutshell, the midfielder represented everything Hertha BSC had lately lost. Of course, the 35-year-old no longer has full strength due to a long history of injuries.

But it’s also evident that Magath had already anointed Boateng his only key player for the week, and he more than delivered.

“The coach said he needed me,” said Boateng after Hertha’s first away win in six months at Sky and revealed that he was even allowed to choose his position.

“I did it quite well. It didn’t look like a player who was already done.” he added.

After the victory against Augsburg Boateng mentioned that the squad is going to prepare for their next crucial game.

“Now we have a week to prepare for the next final,” Boateng said.

Hertha coach Magath described the victory as “vital” and praised Boateng.

“He’s a great player and was very important,” said Magath. “But I don’t want to single anyone out today.”
