I’m not interested in what the critics say; I’m focused on helping Nigeria overcome Ghana - Ighalo

Nigerian striker, Odion Ighalo has stressed that he is not paying attention to comments from critics.

Despite missing the 2021 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations tournament, the experienced forward has been invited to help the Super Eagles qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

After his inclusion in the squad, a number of Nigerians have expressed dissatisfaction, insisting that it is a bad call.

Speaking to ESPN on the matter, Odion Ighalo says he is not bothered by such comments.

“I don’t pay attention to that. Everything they are saying is their own cup of tea. At my age, I just signed to a new team (Al Hilal). This is my 11th team in my professional career,” the former Manchester United striker said.

He continued, “I have been called up, I will take my bag and I will go to represent my country and give my 100%.

“As long as I come out from every game and satisfied with my performance – whether it is a win, loss or draw – then that’s it.

“I’m a professional footballer. That’s what I’ve been doing for 17, 18 years, so why would I be worried about what people say?”

Nigeria face Ghana later this month in a two-legged encounter in the final phase of the African qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
