John Paintsil makes interesting comments about ‘Juju’ in camp at the 2012 Afcon
One of Ghana’s most capped players, John Painstil, has spoken out about the suspected usage of black magic, popularly known as juju, in camp during the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon in 2012.
The retired right-back admitted that “things happened” and that he had to interfere at one point to quiet down tensions in camp.
In an interview with news portal GhanaWeb, the former defender revealed that rumors about ‘juju’ in camp frightened certain players in the team, but he was able to calm them down.
“Something happened in camp but I won’t say that on air,” he said.
“Some players believed some players were using juju in camp leading to talk, talk and shouting and I had to come in to address the issue. I told them there is no juju in football and if you see someone doing something, he is doing it for himself,”
“At that time I was one of the seniors in camp and I had to calm them down,” he concluded.
There have been a lot of speculations about the usage of juju in teams and during tournaments in the country in recent times.
