Lack of interest from Ghana FA to pursue match-fixing allegation leaves Ashgold v Allies case cold

The inaction of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to pursue the match-fixing allegation in the game between Ashanti Gold SC and Inter Allies FC has left the case cold at the doorsteps of the Crime Investigations Department (CID).

Before the climax of the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League season, there were wild allegations of match-fixing.

On the final day, the clash between Ashanti Gold SC and Inter Allies FC ended with the former winning 7-0.

Subsequently, the Ghana FA contacted the CID to investigate the allegation of match-fixing.

Speaking to Angel FM to provide an update, CID boss Ken Yeboah has disclosed that the GFA failed to follow up when it requested an official statement.

“The GFA only came to our HQ to report on an alleged match-fixing in their league.

“We told them we are ready to pick it up since it’s a criminal offence in their regulations but we asked that they write an official statement detailing clubs involved etc. They told us they’ll come back with the statement.

“We never heard from them again till today. We had been waiting to hear from them since they left our office after the verbal complaint,” CID boss Ken Yeboah has disclosed.

He continued, “All we heard was that they had started another league season. They didn’t submit any report and there’s no way we could commence investigations.”

The latest revelation from the CID is a big indictment on the Ghana FA which has constantly preached that it is against match-fixing and willing to fight it.
