MTN FA Cup R64: Hearts of Oak begin cup defense with victory against Accra Lions
Hearts of Oak on Wednesday afternoon commenced a defense of the MTN FA Cup title with a narrow 1-0 win against Accra Lions.
The Phobians last season excelled in the competition and went all the way to the final.
Despite being outplayed by Ashanti Gold SC in the final, Hearts of Oak managed to hold on to lift the trophy after being victorious at the end of the penalty shootout.
Today, the Ghanaian giants played the first match in this season’s MTN FA Cup when the team faced off with Accra Lions FC.
In a game where the Phobians defended very well, a first-half strike from midfielder Salifu Ibrahim was enough to secure a win for the side against the opponent.
Courtesy of the triumph, Hearts of Oak are now through to the Round 32 stage of the MTN FA Cup competition.
