Nigerians tell NFF to appoint foreign coach after World Cup elimiation

Some fans have urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to appoint a foreign coach after the sacking of stand-in coach Augustine Eguavoen following World Cup elimination.

Nigeria were held to a 1-1 draw by Ghana at the Moshood Abiola Stadium on Tuesday, hence the Black Stars sealed qualification on the away goals rule.

Thomas Partey gave Ghana the lead against the run of play in the 10th minute before Watford defender William Trost-Ekong levelled from the penalty spot 12 minutes later after Ademola Lookman was judged to have been fouled in the box.

Ghana’s qualification denied Nigeria a fourth successive outing at the World Cup finals.

Below are some reactions from fans:

“Get us a competent foreign coach to lead the Eagles. Our local coaches should first prove themselves in our local league before getting a chance with the national team,” Eyenidara Essien wrote on twitter.

Segun Sorunke added, “There is too much talent within the Eagles for them not to qualify. Get a foreign coach that will be respected by the boys.”

“Disband the team, get a sound local or foreign coach and invite new bulk of home-based players with a sprinkle of foreign stars.”

Captain Slim said, “The NFF should appoint a competent coach with a public record of a successful coaching career for the Eagles

@Mohlee44 wrote, “Our federation has not taken our football seriously because they see it as another means of looting fund. We just don’t need a foreign coach we also need foreigners to lead the NFF.”

Omoniyi Isaac also wrote, “A competent foreign coach should be next on the agenda because we’ve tried local coaches and got no tangible results. They are all bad.”

@makito2001 also said,” Even if we give our opinion, it wouldn’t stand. So NFF should make their decision themselves but a foreign coach should be appointed.”

The 2022 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place from November 21 to December 18.
