Portuguese gaffer Jose Peseiro favourite to land vacant Nigeria coaching job

Portuguese trainer Jose Peseiro has emerged as the leading contender for the vacant coaching job at Nigeria.

The Super Eagles were defeated in the final qualifying round by sworn rivals Ghana, who qualified for their fourth tournament.

Following a goalless draw in Kumasi, the Black Stars earned a 1-1 draw in Abuja to advance on away goals. As a result, a group of local coaches led by Austin Eguavoen were fired.

A number of names have been linked with the Nigeria job including Laurent Blanc, Anthony Conceicao and Ernesto Valverde but according to reports in the Nigerian media, the Nigerian Football Federation has settled on Peseiro and will in the coming days announce his appointment.

He will arrive Nigeria with two assistants and will work the four appointed by the Federation.

The assistants appointed are Salisu Yusuf, Finidi George, Usman Abdallah and Ike Shorounmu (Goalkeepers’ Trainer).
