Pyramids boss Ehab Galal appointed new Egypt coach

Ehab Galal has been appointed as the new coach of Egypt, taking over from Carlos Queiroz.

The 54-year-old has played a crucial role at Pyramids since September, guiding the Cairo-based outfit to the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Carlos Queiroz left his role as the Pharoahs head coach after the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) terminated his contract by mutual consent.

He failed to qualify the team to the 2022 World Cup last month, losing to Senegal on penalties – a team they lost to in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations final in Cameroon also on penalties.

Pyramids are currently 3rd in the Egyptian league and Galal will lead the club in their two-legged Confederation Cup tie against DR Congo’s TP Mazembe, which is slated for this Sunday and on April 24

Galal has previously been in charge of several other club sides including Zamalek, El Masry, El Makkasa, Ismaily and Al Ahly Tripoli.

Egypt await the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Nations Cup qualifying group draw, which will take place on Tuesday, 19 April.
