South African club Matiyasi FC banned for life after scoring 59 goals in a single match

South African outfit Matiyasi FC have been banned for life following a match manipulation in the lower division last week.

The Limpopo-based club, who were vying for promotion to the Provincial ABC Motsepe League, beat Nsami Mighty Birds 59-1, with 41 of the goals being own-goals.

In spite of that, the South African Football Association (SAFA) regional office in Limpopo summoned both clubs to the Disciplinary Committee on May 25.

Both teams were charged and found guilty of corruption and contravening the association’s statutes.

However, the South African Football Association (SAFA) has inflicted a lifetime ban on the club while officials of both clubs have also been given a five-year suspension.
