‘The journey has begun’ – Ghana’s Fatawu Issahaku after training with Sporting Lisbon first team

Ghana international Fatawu Issahaku has reacted to training with the first team of Sporting Lisbon for the first time since signing a deal with the Portuguese giants.

The 18-year-old who left Ghana Premier League side Dreams FC in February had to wait until March before signing a professional contract.

Before penning his deal last week, he had been training with the junior team.

Issahaku signed a five-year-deal keeping him at the club until 2027. He has a release clause of 60 million Euros.

The former Steadfast FC star impressed at the junior side, and this has seen him move to the senior side.

After training with the senior team for the first time, Issahaku took to social media and said, “The journey has begun”.

Having arrived with the season in progress, he will have to wait until next season before he can feature for the club.

Until then, Issahaku will continue to train with the senior team.

He was named the best African U20 player last year after helping Ghana to win the African Youth Championship in Mauritania.

During the competition, he played all of the Black Satellites’ matches, scoring two goals in the group stages to help his side win the title for the fourth time in its history.

In March 2021, after his exploits with the U20 side, he was given his first call-up to the Ghana senior team as the Black Stars challenged South Africa and Sao Tome in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers.
