Video: SAFA match official taken to the hospital after being assaulted by supporters

Spectators stormed the pitch and attacked a SAFA official during a game between Bayern FC and Secunda M Stars at the KwaNyamazane Stadium in Mbombela on Saturday, causing the game to be suspended due to the pitch invasion.

This is the second incident of fans storming the pitch on the continent after Super Eagles fans stormed the pitch at the Moshood Abiola Stadium. The angry fans destroyed items at the stadium after Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Ghana in the world cup playoffs.

Ghana football has also seen its fair share of these disgraceful actions from fans.

After Bayern were granted a penalty late in the game after the Stars goalie fouled attacker Lolo Mbonani, fans were claimed to have reacted furiously.

This disgraceful action follows the alleged vandalism of SAFA referee Victor Hlungwane and University of Pretoria scout Tebogo Monyai’s car tyres during the first leg last week.

According to Kickoff, SAFA Mpumalanga Provincial Secretary Bevan Mahlangu stated the incident was being investigated and that Jabu Nzima had been discharged from the hospital.

“Yes, it’s true that match commissioner Jabulani Nzima has been discharged from hospital. I would prefer not to comment on the incident until SAFA receives the match report,”

“Once the matter has been tabled before the SAFA DC then I can comment.”
