Watch MTN FA Cup highlights as Hearts of Oak survive Elmina Sharks scare to progress to quarter-finals
Hearts of Oak on Sunday night survived a scare from Elmina Sharks to book a place in the quarter-finals of this season’s MTN FA Cup.
The Phobians despite their struggles in the Ghana Premier League have done creditably well in the domestic cup competition.
Having managed to advance to the Round of 16, Hearts of Oak on Sunday night hosted Elmina Sharks at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Although the Phobians scored first through striker Isaac Mensah, the visitors came back strong and scored two goals to lead in the second half.
Fortunately for Hearts of Oak, Kofi Kordzi converted a late penalty kick that forced the encounter to be decided via the penalty spot.
During that long shootout, goalkeeper Richmond Ayi emerged as the hero for the Phobians as he saved as many as four kicks.
With another Elmina Sharks kick missing the target, Hearts of Oak managed to win 8-7 at the end of the shootout to progress to the quarter-finals.
Being the defending champions, the capital-based club is confident of going all the way to lift the enviable title at the end of the campaign.
