WC Playoff: Nigeria defender Troost-Ekong showers praise on Black Stars defense

Nigeria defender William Troost-Ekong Twas full of praise for the Black Stars defense unit after stiffling the Nigerian attack in Friday’s night showdown between Ghana & Nigeria.

The two African powerhouses went toe-to-toe as both nations were bidding to secure a ticket for this year’s World Cup.

The Black Stars put up a gallant performance as they managed to hold out the Nigerian attack which comprised of in-form Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen.

All the pre-match talk ahead of the first leg of the 2022 World Cup playoff centered on how the Napoli striker who has 11 goals from 20 games this season was going to run riot with the backline of Ghana.

The pairing of Amartey & Djiku put up a stalwart performance on the night to restrict Osimhen all throughout the game.

Troost-Ekong, who also ensured the Ghanaian attack were kept at bay showered praises on the defense unit of the Black Stars in his post-match address to the media.

“I think it’s also a great work from Ghana that they figured it out, the defenders, the wings as well.” – Troost-Ekong said.

“But I think that everyone was quite scared of Victor [Osimhen]. There were two against one most of the time.” – he added.

Ghana will face Nigeria in the second leg of the 2022 World Cup playoffs on Tuesday at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, Nigeria.
