World Cup 2022 draw: How to watch draw live, which teams are involved and how it works

Ghana is among the five African countries that have secured qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be staged in Qatar later this year.

The Black Stars sealed qualification to the biggest soccer mundial after edging their West African neighbours, Nigeria on an away goal rule.

The four-time African champions drew 0-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium before playing a 1-1 draw at the Moshood Abiola Stadium to qualify on an away goal rule last Tuesday.

Ghana will know their group stages opponent later today as the draw for the 2022 FIFA World Cup is set to be held in Doha, Qatar.

The draw will be held at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre.

A delegation from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) arrived in Qatar on Thursday for the draw.

The delegation in Qatar includes Ghana FA President, Kurt Okraku, vice-president Mark Addo and General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo.

The four times African champions will find out their group opponents in a draw to be held in Doha today.

What time is the World Cup draw?

The event will take place at the Doha Exhibition Center on Friday, April 1. It starts at 4pm Ghana time.

How to watch World Cup draw ?

The draw will be live-streamed on FIFA’s official website, YouTube, and social media channels.

How is World Cup groups decided?

The 32 teams that have qualified for the World Cup are divided into four pots of eight teams.

Teams are drawn from each pot and allocated into eight groups. Pot 1 is emptied first, followed by Pot 2, then Pot 3 and finally Pot 4.

The procedure will see a ball drawn from the team pot and then allocated one of eight groups, from A to H.

At the end of the draw, there will be eight groups of four countries each but aside Europe, there would not be two teams from the same confederation in the same group. Europe will only have a maximum of two team in a group.

Teams in the draw

Pot one: Qatar, Brazil, Belgium, France, Argentina, England, Spain & Portugal.

Pot two: Mexico, Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Uruguay, Switzerland, USA & Croatia.

Pot three: Senegal, Iran, Japan, Morocco, Serbia, Poland, South Korea, Tunisia.

Pot four: Cameroon, Canada, Ecuador, Saudi Arabia, Ghana, Wales/Scotland/Ukraine, Costa Rica/New Zealand, Australia/UAE/Peru.

Why are Ghana in pot four?

The pots have been made based on how countries are ranked with the exception of host country, Qatar. Ghana is in pot four because of the latest ranking released by the world football governing body (FIFA) on Thursday. Ghana is ranked 60th globally.
