Nigeria takes delivery of Russia’s ‘Sputnik V’ Covid-19 vaccines.

Vida Essel-LampteyThe Federal Republic of Nigeria has received samples of Russia’s ‘Sputnik V’, Covid-19 vaccines which were approved last month.
The news report indicates that the West African country took delivery of the samples on Friday, September 4, 2020, during a courtesy visit by the Russian Ambassador, Alexey Shebarshin to the country’s Health Minister, Osagie Emmanuel Ehanire in Abuja.
According to the report, the Director of Information, Media and Public Relations of the Ministry of Health, Olujimi Oyetomi has also confirmed the delivery of the vaccine in a statement.
The “Sputnik V” samples, the report said would be evaluated by Nigeria’s Institute of Pharmaceutical Research and National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), for use in the fight against the disease which has caused severe havoc to the world, its people and economic activities.

Nigeria’s Ministry of Health On Delivery of Vaccine
In a series of tweets, Nigeria’s Ministry of Health said the country’s interest in the Russian vaccine was to enable them to work elaborately in the fight against the disease.
“We are expressing our interest for the #COVID19 vaccine so that we will have the opportunity to work elaborately”.
“We are exploring all knowledge in terms of therapeutics & vaccines”, the ministry added.
Russia approves a COVID-19 Vaccine
The Eastern Europe country, last month, approved the Gamaleya Institute’s “Sputnik V’ COVID-19 vaccine, paving way for mass production of the vaccine which was yet to complete its final trials amidst concerns of its safety on the citizenry.
However, the country’s President, Vladimir Putin who disclosed the approval on live television said the vaccine was safe adding that one of his daughters had already been given the vaccine.
The news made the country, the first in the world to have announced such a feet in the search of the vaccine for the global pandemic discovered in December last year.
