Miner Jailed for defiling friend’s daughter – Skyy Power FM
The Tarkwa circuit court has sentenced a 30-year-old small-scale miner who defiled his friend’s nine-year-old daughter in Prestea Himan, in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality, to 12 years in jail with hard labour.
Akwasi Abaidoo said he was under the influence of alcohol when he entered a not-guilty plea to the allegation of defilement.
Superintendent of Police Juliana Essel-Dadzie, who is prosecuting the case, informed the court, which was presided over by Mrs Hathie Ama Manu, that the complainant in the case is a seamstress and the aunt of the victim, a primary school student.
According to her, the victim’s father took the prisoner to live with him and his family in Prestea Himan in the month of April 2022.
The victim and her siblings were sleeping in their room on July 15, 2022, when both parents departed for a vigil in the area at about 11:00 p.m., the court heard.
Abaidoo slipped into the room and had sex with the girl after knowing the victim’s parents were not there, according to Superintendent Essel-Dadzie.
According to the prosecution, the victim threatened to tell her parents when she abruptly woke up in the middle of the act and found the offender on top of her, but he offered to pay her GHS 20.00 instead.
