Bridget Otoo allegedly sacked by Metro TV barely 24hours she announced her employment

Ghanaian journalist and former TV3 broadcaster, Ms Bridget Otoo has allegedly been sacked by Metro TV barely 24hours she announced her employment with the station to the public.

Social media report sighted by GhanaPlus.com suggest her surprising relieve from her new job may have something to do with pressure from government due to her political affiliation with the opposition National Democratic Congress.

The news emerged after the broadcaster failed to make appearance at the station’s 7PM news on Tuesday as announced by the station and herself.

A member and sympatiser of the NDC who goes by the name Annan Perry Arhin in a twitter post wrote “Are you wondering why Bridget Otoo didn’t show up on #NewsNight at 7pm, Akufo Addo/Bawumia/Npp government have instructed the owners of metro tv to sack her with immediate effect because she bashes them and a supporter of John Mahama”.

At the time of this report, there had not been any official communication from either Metro TV and Ms Otoo on the development.

However, a broadcast journalist with the TV station, Annie Afua Ampofo in reaction to the report called for calm adding that the station would speak to the development in due time.

Her comment has since been removed.

Bridget Otoo joins Metro TV as anchor

Bridget Otoo, on Monday August 2, announced that she had joined the station as a news anchor and would be hosting the station’s prime time news from 7PM to 8PM on weekdays.

Announcing her new job she wrote We go again; I got a call from someone I revere months ago and I didn’t think much of it. Then another, a few weeks later, put the sheer volume of the task ahead in perspective. I had to take five to wrap my head around it but shortly after, the third time was the charm …”

In another, she described the station as her new home adding that they love her unique and authentic perspective and would make the most out of the opportunity.

In what seem to be a signing of official documents of her employment she  thanked the station for the confidence repose in her.

“I would like to say thank you to the Managing Director of Metro TV@kayodeAkintemi for trusting and accepting me for who I am and Dr. Randy Abbey for the absolute belief in me. #MetroNews #NewsNight PS: I sell cement in the morning & news at night call 0593039558 to order cement”, she said.
