2022 vision for Western Region is to enhance the economic prosperity
The Western Regional Minister, Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah says the 2022 vision for the Western Region is to enhance its economic prosperity.
Speaking on the Jolly Breakfast Show on Wednesday, January 5, boosting the economy of the region has always been his vision since attaining the position of the Regional Minister and he will do everything in his capacity to make it a reality.
Explaining his vision, he indicated they will begin with a young people’s summit in all the fourteen (14) Districts of the Region which youth performing marvellously well will be awarded.
Also, they will be two forms of training at the summit.
He said, ” We will have two training programs, one is formal and one is informal. The formal training will look at oil and gas issues, CV writing, business development and others.
“The second training will be informal, vocational skills like converting plastic waste into fuel, developing biogas and creating other materials like creams, ointment and soaps.”
Mr Darko-Mensah also explained they will start to promote the Youstart Initiative in the region, an initiative to help young people start and grow small businesses.
He said, ” The Youstart Initiative has huge potential to multiply the investment we give to the youth and that is one way of making sure that the economic activity of the Western Region can grow.”
“Not until the people of the region own the productive assets, profits will not stay here, and the region will not grow, that is one area that is going to be our major focus.”
The Regional Minister indicated they have awarded over 80 contracts of roads, totalling 1350Km of roads in the Western Region and will make sure the contractors get up to speed with projects given them.
