2024 budget must address issues concerning youth

The Western Nzema Young League’s leader, Dr. Patrick Ekye Kwesie, has pleaded with the government to make sure that the budget statement and economic policy for 2024 take into account the many issues that the nation’s young are now experiencing.

In an interview in Takoradi with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on anticipations for the 2024 budget presentation, he stated that the government need to give precedence to measures that would enhance the general state of affairs and provide much-needed respite to the swarming young.

Speaking for the youth of our nation, he stated: “This year’s government budget meets our high expectations, as it does every year.”

When outlining some of the main goals, Dr. Kwesie said that one of the main issues facing young people is finding work, and that the budget has to set aside a significant amount of money to make sure that everyone has access to this.

“believe that to accomplish this, the government should focus on developing the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector, which is the primary source of employment in rural and semi-urban areas,” he stated.

He also recommended offering incentives to private businesses so they would establish manufacturing facilities, which would assist in creating more job prospects for young people.

Dr. Kwesie further requested that, in order to safeguard workers facing layoffs in the private sector, the government concentrate its resources on sectors that are growing and creating jobs.

Speaking about health, he stated that the next budget should include more money for public health services and infrastructure.

Dr. Kwesie said, “This would ensure that everyone, regardless of their financial situation, could access high-quality healthcare.”
