3 SHS students who set Bolt driver ablaze in Sekondi remanded

Three (3) Senior High School (SHS) students who were arrested in connection to the murder of a Bolt driver who is also a Naval Officer at Sekondi Baka-Ano have been remanded into Police custody.

According to reports, the suspect Patrick Baidoo, aged 18, Joseph Lord Nii Adjei Odiku, 17, and Adolf Eshun, 17, are said to have confessed to committing the crime of burning the driver whiles in his vehicle which led to his death.

DSP Olivia Adiku, who is the Western Regional Police Public Relations Officer revealed this information to the media during their arrest.

The three suspects were slapped with several criminal charges and were remanded on Thursday, December 30, 2021, by a Sekondi District Court presided over by Her Worship Mrs Catherine Obiri Addo.

Adolf Eshun, the first accused person, is facing one count of abetment of crime namely robbery.

The two others, Patrick Baidoo and Joseph Lord Nii  Adjei Oninku are being pressed with four charges.

These include conspiracy to commit a crime – attempted robbery, causing unlawful damage and murder, and attempt to commit a crime -robbery.

The two other counts are causing unlawful damage and murder all contrary to the Criminal Offenses Act, 1960 (Act 29).

DSP Adiku, also revealed that the suspects ordered the Bolt after they were stranded and in a struggle to take the victims vehicle away in a struggle, they poured fuel on him and set him ablaze.

“Unfortunately, the Bolt driver has passed on. The suspects confessed that they wanted to steal the car from him.

“When they got to Baka-Ano, and they asked him to hand over the keys, he refused, so they poured petrol on him and burnt him.

The Bolt driver who later died at the 37 Military Hospital has been identified as Naval officer AB1 Boateng Okyere.

The court has adjourned the case to Tuesday, January 14, 2022.
