Ahanta Traditional Council warns delineating some communties may cause instability

Any attempt to exclude certain communities from the jurisdiction, according to the Ahanta Traditional Council, may cause the local peace to become unstable.

The Cape Three Points, Prusi Akatakyi, Princess Town, Miemia, Egyambra, and their adjoining Areas to the Nzema East Municipality were claimed to be aware of their position and did not require such separation for anything, according to the Council.

Before the Dutch arrived in Ahanta Land, Nana Akwanzi Abraba IV, an acting president, stated that the Ahanta realm was still bordered on the left by the River Ankobra and on the right by the River Pra.

In response to a petition requesting the demarcation, the Council said: “The Nananom of the Ahanta Traditional Area would like to categorically state that, the petition does not involve the consultation of Nananom of the Ahanta Traditional Area and their stakeholders.”

He asserted that the territories named in the petition cannot be divided into Nzema East Municipality as the petition recommended since they are a fundamental component of Ahanta and are governed by His Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Baidoo Bonsoe XVI, Ahantahene.

The petition’s assertion that Princess Town and its neighbouring settlements may be raised to the status of a monarchy without the approval and participation of their overlord, Otumfuo Baidoo Bonsoe, Ahantahene, is false, the acting president said.

“The Chiefs, stakeholders and people of Prusi Akatakyi, Princess Town, Miemia, Egyambra and their adjourning Areas have cohabited peacefully from time immemorial in spite of the socio-economic challenges, and under development faced by them and the western Region as a whole,” the statement established.

According to the statement, the Traditional Council would not be hesitant to pursue proper legal action against any group or person whose behaviour or activities were intended to undermine the peace and stability in the villages of the Ahanta Traditional Area.
