Appiatse tragedy - Gov't will rebuild and put in place facilities for victims

The Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia says government will do its part by rebuilding and putting in place facilities for victims of the Appiatse explosion in the Western Region.

There has been a huge explosion in Appiatse between Bogoso and Bawdie in the Western Region and according to reports, 17 people have lost their lives so far whiles 59 people in the process have been injured.

According to the Ghana Police Service, a preliminary investigation has established that a mining explosive vehicle moving from Tarkwa to Chirano mines collided with a motorcycle resulting in the explosion on Thursday, January 20.

The Vice President led a delegation of government officials to visit the site of the incident and the victims on Friday, January 21, to console and also offer the best help the government could provide.

Speaking to the media, he said, ” Government on its part is going to do everything to support the family, for the houses that have been destroyed, we are already looking forward to rehabilitating and rebuilding for the community.”

“I have already spoken to the state housing cooperation and with them and in consultation with the mining companies around here, we will quickly try to put in place facilities that help those who have been displaced.”

“We are going to assure you that the government is involved in all these processes, we have learnt our lessons and are now concerned about how to complete this rescue effort.
