Be transformational and instructional leaders
Regional Director of Education in the Western Region, Mrs Felicia Agyeibea Okai has urged heads of schools to move from being positional leaders to transformational and instructional leaders.
She said the era where Headmasters limit their activities to only office work is over and they are expected to be actively involved in what goes on in the classroom.
The Education Director said this at a ceremony to commence a 3-day workshop/retreat for heads of Education at Akroma Plaza in Takoradi on Thursday, December 9.
The program which was organized by the Western Regional Ghana Education Service brought together heads of the Senior High Schools in the region, former and current district and Municipal Directors of Education as well as representatives from the security agencies.
The maiden workshop is to reflect on the year’s activity and to make some changes towards the ensuring year when the need be.
“Wherever I go, I make sure that we take stock of our activities and I believe education in the region will never be the same after this workshop,” she said.
Mrs Okai said teachers cannot continue to do the same thing and expect the same results hence the need to be abreast with modern trends of teaching and learning.
We need to task ourselves as leaders of education in the region and make sure that we train students to be of good use to the society the regional education director said.
Nana Kwabena Nketia, Paramount Chief of Essikado who was the chairman of the program called on the leaders of education to be concerned about what he called the failing standard of Ghanaian culture in the schools.
According to him, teachers should not only be interested in teaching and learning but instil Ghanaian traditional norms in them.
