Cecilia Dapaah appointed caretaker Gender Ministry minister

The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has appointed the Minister of Sanitation, Ms Cecilia Abena Dapaah as caretaker minister for the Ministry of Children, Gender and Social protection.

She is to act in the stead of the substantive minister, Ms Sarah Adwoa Safo who is currently on an extended leave.

A statement from the Presidency dated October, 6 and signed by the Director of the Communications, Mr Eugene Arhin  and sighted by GhanaPlus.com said, Ms Adwoa Safo sought a leave of absence for personal reasons.

“The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has extended the leave of absence for the Minister of Gender Children and Social Protection, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, MP for Dome Kwabenya which was to have ended on August 31. The Minster sought leave of absence for personal reasons”.

“In her absence and until further notice, President Akufo Addo has directed the Minister of Sanitation and water resources, Cecelia Abena Dapaah to act as caretaker Minster for the Children and Social Protection,” the statement said.

The Gender Minister, Ms Sarah Adwoa Safo had come under several criticisms recently following her seeming silent on almost all issues concerning her office.

The new mother was some few days ago heavily criticized by the member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s Communication Team, Mr Elikem Kotoko for not speaking to the alleged sodomy of 19 pupils at salaga in the Savanna Region by their teacher.
