Gertrude Sackey Torkonoo, the Chief Justice of Ghana, has urged Judicial Service employees to make the courthouse a warm and comforting place for people who have been injured.
She said, “the courthouse is comparable to hospitals, people come here because they are in dire need of care, be it emotional, psychological and social ours it to sooth their pain and not to bruise their wounds with unwanted behaviours.”
As part of the events commemorating the start of the new legal year, Justice Torkonoo made this statement as she launched the new court constructed for the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly at Apremdo.
In order to bring the wheels of justice closer to Ghanaians, President Akufo Addo promised to build 100 additional courthouses, including the Apremdo Court:
According to the Chief Justice, laws and the Court are resources and instruments that provide direction, order, and the administration of justice in order to promote growth and prosperity.
According to her, it also urged the Service to operate in compliance with all moral standards.
According to Chief Justice Torkanoo, “as public officers, we are paid for the work we do, and it is high time we advance honest, fair and transparent justice system devoid of extortion of monies from clients to retain confidence in the justice system of the country”
She praised the President for taking the initiative and discussed Sustainable Development Goals 10 and 16, which addressed equality, peace, and justice.
She asked Ghanaians to diligently pursue their claims and make requests to judges questions for better understanding during trial of their cases.
