Drivers sleep at gas stations as strike enters Day 3

Some drivers in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis have been sleeping at gas stations for days as the strike enters day 3.

Some gas stations within Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis and the country have halted the sail of gas to the general public in solidarity with a sit-down strike by gas tanker drivers association, petrol tanker unions in consultation with LPG marketers association and Ghana LPG operators association and other stakeholders in the LPG downstream industry.

Skyy Power Fm’s Journalists were at some selected gas stations to monitor the atmosphere. About 20 vehicles, the majority being taxis were parked in front of the MANBAH Gas Sation at I. Adu in Takoradi.

Some drivers who had passed the night there told Skyy News that they were not aware of the strike and have been stuck at the station since Monday, August 1.

According to some drivers who had the opportunity to fill their gas tanks, they had to spend about 6 hours in a queue at a Goil filling station since they are the only stations selling gas for now.

Hundreds of people who were there to fill their gas cylinders had to return home due to the strike.

In a press release by the Association, they have sighted three major reasons for which they are embarking on the strike. They include poor working conditions of Gas tanker drivers, a ban on LPG stations since 2017 and unfair treatment of petrol tanker drivers by BOST and NPA.
