E-levy will not discourage Ghanaians from using MoMo services

The Western Region Minister, Mr Kwabene Okyere Darko-Mensah is confident that Ghanaians will continue using the Mobile Money services after the E-levy is approved.

Also, because of the miseducation on the policy, the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis will host the Government Townhall on E-Levy at the Sekondi Youth Centre on Wednesday, February 2.

Speakers at the event are going to be Mr Okyere-Darko Mensah, Finance Minister, Mr Ken Ofori, Member of Parliament (MP) for Sekondi, Mr Egyapa Mercer and the Information Minister, Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.

Speaking on Skyy Power 93.5FM on Wednesday, he was asked by the host of the Jolly Breakfast Show (JBS), Samuel Kojo Brace if the E-levy policy will not affect patronisation of the MoMo service, because, since its announcement, there has been a panic withdrawal across the service.

He made it known, not at all will the E-levy affect the Mobile Money service and he is confident it will encourage more patriotic citizens who would want to contribute to the development of the country.

He said, “I’m confident the E-levy will not discourage Ghanaians from using the service as it will contribute massively to the development of the country.”

He also said that the government thought it wise to exclude the poor from contributing to the E-levy since it does not want to burden them with what they cannot afford to pay.

He said, “Not all Ghanaians will pay the E-levy, most especially those who normally send GHS100 or less.”
