Ejura Killings: Gov’t compensates families of deceased

The government of Ghana has compensated the families of persons who lost their lives in the Ejura shooting last year.

 3news.com report the families were presented with undisclosed amount of money on Saturday, February 5 in conformity with the recommendation of the three-member committee set to probe the incident.

 A protest by resident of Ejura to seek justice for the murdered social activist and #FixTheCountry Campaigner Ibrahim Mohammed Anyass alias Kaaka on June 29 turned bloody when the military opened fire on the protestors.

Two persons were shot dead with four others left various degrees of injury after the military opened fire on civilian demonstrators who were demanding justice for the murdered social activist and a member of the #FixTheCountry campaign.

The activist died few days after he was mob attacked in the community by unknown.

A three member committee chaired by Justice of the Court of Appeal, Justice George Kingsley Koomson and has Dr Vladimir Antwi-Danso, a Security Expert, and Ms Juliet Amoah, the Executive Director of Penplusbytes, a not-for-profit organisation into good governance and the promotion of new media with a Principal State Attorney, Ms Marie-Louise Simmons as the Secretary set up to probe into the development recommended among other things a compensations for the bereaved families.

Speaking to the media, the lawyer for the families said “This compensation offer does not discharge the obligations of the State and its actors to the victims and the Ejura Community, including the prosecution of the offenders”.

He added the families would still pursue the case until justice is served them and perpetrated brought book.

“The families remain committed to pursuing their cause for justice, including pressing the case for the immediate and urgent criminal prosecution of the actors involved in these heinous crimes.”

The lawyers hinted that on Wednesday, February 9, the families will meet the Attorney-General and the Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, to raise the case for the prosecution of the individuals in the commission of the crimes,” 3news.com said.
