EKMA sets to strengthen security amidst recent robbery incidents – Skyy Power FM

The Municipal Chief Executive of the Effia Kwesiminstim Municipal Assembly, Mr Kojo Acquah says the Assembly is taking steps to tighten the security in the area.

Speaking at the Second Ordinary meeting of the fourth session of the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly, on Wednesday, January 26, Mr Kojo Acquah said the period under review saw a worrying trend in unlawful misconduct on the roads by some motorcyclists who to date engaged their vehicles in street racing and the performance of stunts and tricks.

He said these activities have proven to be nuisance and significant contributors to Road Traffic Accidents, thereby making it an issue of
public concern.

Also, reports received from MUSEC have also indicated that some criminals have capitalized on these gimmicks to snatch mobile phones and other valuables from pedestrians.

He said, “I have directed the Municipal Guards Unit of the Assembly to give impetus to the provision in our Bye-Laws which makes it mandatory for motorbikes to be registered with the Assembly prior to their usage on our roads.”

“Awareness creation in respect of this has begun, and intensified registration would soon follow. This registration would aid the Police and our Guards to identify and bring to book, all motorists who indulge in such acts

“I want to assure you all that, your worries in respect of this matter go unnoticed. Collaborations between the Police and our Guards have begun and hopefully, these infractions on our roads would be brought to a successful end.”

“Our Security Agencies are readily available to respond to security emergencies as and when it becomes necessary. Together, we will resist the claims of criminals in our part of society by continuously deploying all legitimate means to maintain a Municipality respectful of human rights, the rule of law, peace, stability and democratic accountability.”

The MCE said as part of activities to reduce flooding and alleviate its effects on the residents during this year’s rainy season, the Assembly dredged a number of drains and rivers, known to be significant contributors to the numerous flooding incidents recorded within the Municipality.

The MCE said, “It goes without saying that, the number of flooding occurrences recorded during this season pales in comparison with other periods, in view of the good works undertaken by this young Assembly. However, we remain unwavering in our fight to create a Municipality that progressively counts no flooding incidences despite our 16 status as a settlement below sea level. Be assured that, more dredging and desilting exercises would be undertaken in the ensuing months.”

Speaking on Local Economic Development Mr Kojo Acquah said One Hundred (100) beneficiaries between the ages of 18 and 40 were selected within the Municipality and trained extensively for fifteen
(15) days, and awarded certificates in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, Kaizen and other business-related topics under the government’s National Youstart program.
