Gaza-Israel War: Ghana taking sides is dangerous

Israeli bombing of Gaza has resulted in hundreds of civilian casualties. In order to combat what it refers to as “human animals,” Israel’s government has declared a complete siege on Gaza. Earlier, Palestinian fighters killed hundreds of Israelis.

As part of what is probably a build-up for an anticipated ground invasion of Gaza, Israel has gathered 100,000 soldiers as well as a handful of tanks near the border with Gaza.

Even as airstrikes have pounded the Gaza Strip in the days following the unexpected onslaught by the Palestinian terrorist organisation Hamas that left more than 900 Israelis dead, the army is calling up 360,000 reservists.

The government of Ghana has condemned attacks on Israel by Hamas militants. The Foreign Affairs Ministry in a statement issued on Sunday said Ghana unequivocally condemns the attack and calls on the Hamas leadership to immediately seize the attacks and withdraw its militants from Southern Isreal.

The Statement also added that Ghana affirms its support for Israel’s right to exist and defend itself and called on the Israeli government to exercise restraint in its response to Hamas’ attacks.

Meanwhile, Security Consultant, Mr Richard Kumadoe says the Ghana government made a mistake in declaring their support for Israel which could have security implications for Ghana.

He suggested that the government should have called on the community of nations to take a stand that the violence must stop and analyse the root cause of the war and resolve it.

He said by doing so, the Ghana government would exempt itself from anger or attack from external forces.

Mr Kumadoe said, “Looking all over the world, Germans are demonstrating on behalf of the Palestinians, and in some other countries they are demonstrating on behalf of the Israelis, so it is a divided situation that Ghana must tread carefully so as to not to create a problem for itself.”

“It has so many security implications, people who are not happy with the behaviour of the Israelis, killing the Palestinians almost all the time.”

“When you suppress somebody so badly, this is the result you get,” he added.

He says the United Nations (UN) must spread its wings around the Israelis and the Palestinians and help resolve the whole conflict.

“UN must help resolve this barbaric act, so many children are hostage and they have killed people on both sides, we have to stop this bloodshed, the security implication on the world itself is dangerous.”
