“Kobby’s success as Western Regional Minister is introduction of vigilantism” – NDC communicator
The Western Region’s communications officer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Richard Ernest Kirk-Mensah has unequivocally stated that there is going to be a major political shakeup in the Western Region of Ghana which will seriously affect the Member of Parliament for Takoradi, Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah as the Western Regional Minister.
Commenting on the just ended NPP delegate conference in the region in which two major political pillars fronting for the NPP in the region lost in their bid to retain their executive positions as the regional organizer and regional women’s organizer respectively, Richard Kirk-Mensah said the end of the NPP has come and the electorates in the western region will show the way come 2024.
“It will be in the best interest of the New Patriotic Party to reshuffle their current Western Regional Minister who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Takoradi, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah before election 2024 because he has disintegrated peace and tranquillity in this peaceful region at the expense of social development”.
According to the NDC communication Officer, “the only thing this gentleman has successfully done in the western region is the introduction of vigilantism”.
He explained that until the appointment of Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah as the Western Regional Minister, the region never had vigilante groups, sighting numerous incidences in the region including a situation where the Minister is said to have superintended over the confirmation of the Tarkwa-Nsueam Municipal Chief Executive in a ‘Rambo style’ after picking intelligence that the President’s nominee, Benjamin Kesse will not be approved by a majority of the assembly members.
Cautioning that, “if the NPP thinks that they will have their way in 2024, then they are joking because the security services know that there will be a change of government so they will not allow themselves to be used the way they used them in 2020”, he said.
But in a sharp rebuttal, the Western Region’s Communications Officer for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Issah Fusani who was on the Late Evening Show with Kirk-Mensah refuted those claims peddled by the NDC against the Western Regional Minister saying the NDC’s biggest fear in the region is Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah and that any attempt by some persons to get him off the seat as the regional minister or discredit him will be opposed strongly.
“We are keeping the Western Regional Minister till 2024, even if the president decides to change him we will not agree. We will go to the president and explain to him why it is important to keep Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah in office”.
Issah Fusani however mentioned that the minister is a smooth runner, a team player, very active and can very well execute a plan, that is why he thinks the NDC is afraid of him. “Kobby is the NDC’s worse nightmare in the region now”, he added.
