Ghana is missing a basic logic for economic transformation – NDPC Boss – Skyy Power FM
The Director General of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) Dr Kodjo Esseim Mensah-Abrampa says Ghana’s economic struggle is a result of the country missing a basic logic that can transform the economic fortunes.
Speaking to Skyy News on the sideline of the Western Regional Development Forum on the theme “driving inclusive and equitable development in the Western Region”, Dr Mensah Abrampa said the missing logic is about production and development systems.
He said both the primary and tertiary sectors of Ghana’s economy keep growing to leave behind the secondary sector which he believes is key to transforming Ghana’s economy into a more industrialized and job-creation one.
He says the Western Region needs to take up this challenge since it produces a chunk of the country’s raw materials.
He said, “The primary sector is growing, the tertiary sector is growing, but the middle sector that is the industrial and manufacturing sector is the challenge and this is because a lot of the raw materials we produce are not being processed, and this sector creates the job.”
“The logic we are saying is that let have the primary sector growing but let process and export or trade on, it shouldn’t be only at the national level with big factories, but a chain of collection, gathering and grouping of this material that will create avenues for this non-formal sector like the agriculture sector to grow.”
He says Digitalisation is key to ensuring this transformation, to make the country competitive and he believes the recent digitalisation agenda by the government is in line to put the country on a global level.
