GNAPS week launched – Skyy Power FM

At a colourful event at Gyandu Park on Monday, May 15, the Ghana National Association Of Private Schools (GNAPS) officially unveiled their week celebration with a parade performance.

The Regional Chairman of GNAPS, Mr Ferdinand Nyame, in his speech at the event established the fact that private schools are social intervention policies that are aimed at providing quality education at places where there are none.

According to him, some people have the perception that most proprietors or owners of these private schools set up these schools for profit-making reasons.

Mr Nyame debunked this assertion saying that those are mere speculations but rather, they establish the private schools as a result of the passion they have to provide quality education.

He further called on stakeholders and the government to come to their aid.

He said, “We need to reorient our policymakers into realizing that some private schools are social intervention policies aimed at providing quality education”.

The chairman of the event, Dr Godwin Kojo Agbavor, who is the founder and CEO of Foundation First, touched on the United Nation’s four A’s designed as a guide as regards education as a right.

He also recounted the challenges these private schools are facing and suggested possible solutions to them.

“Foundation first is ready to work with GNAPS to establish annual quality teachers and schools awards scheme which we can start before the academic year ends”.

The zonal chairman of GNAPS, Mr Charles Mintaba in his general remarks told Skyy News that, private schools must be given attention because of their contribution to the education sector.

He went on to roll out the activities they have scheduled for this year’s GNAPS celebration calling on the stakeholders and the government to give them support.

“Parents who have their kids in private schools are parents who pay taxes and they deserve the national cake” he added.

Some teachers present at the event expressed their excitement about the success of the program despite the unfavourable weather.
The theme for this year’s celebration is, “Education is a right.
Stakeholders must support Low-Cost private schools”.
