The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin has said he will prefer not to be alive than to see to the legalization of the LGBTQ+ in the country.

According to him, the God who created His world purposed it as eternal and it would be inappropriate for him, a staunch Christian and Catholic to do anything to end the said purpose.

3news.com report sighted by GhanaPlus.com said Mr Bagbin was interacting with Journalist in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale over the weekend when he made the comment.

“For you all to participate in it, count me out of Ghana,” the Speaker of Parliament said.

“I will prefer to join my Maker than to live. That is me. I am a Catholic and pro-life. I will not do anything that will end the world because God says the world is eternal. Until He comes back we cannot do that to end the world,” Mr Bagbin said.

He noted even the west championing the promotion of the LGBTQ + practices are already feeling its impact adding that in 50years to come  there will be no indigenous European in the world if same continues.

“They have the repercussions in their country and I can tell you that in the next 50 years, there will be no indigenous European in the world.”

He opined the earlier Ghana stops the practice, the better for all.

Ghana LGBTQ+ bill

Currently before Ghana’s parliament is “The Promotion of Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021, a bill sponsored by renowned Members of Parliament to protect the Ghanaian family system and cultural value is currently before Parliament.

When passed the bill will among other things, seeks to protect the country’s family value system, curtail the activities of LGBTQ+ in the country, criminalize to some extent their activities and offer medical and rehabilitation as well as protection for persons within the community from societal abuse.

Again, it will prevent LGBTQ+ individuals from adopting children in Ghana.

Although, supported by many Ghanaians, including the church and traditional authorities, the bill have been met with stiff opposition from a section of the academia who have described as flawed, an affront to the country’s constitution and also gains made in the areas of fundamental human right.
