Immigration Officer allegedly defiles two underage girls at Asankragwa

A 50-year-old officer of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has been remanded into the custody of the Police custody by the Asankragwa Magistrate Court for allegedly defiling two girls aged 9 and 10 in June this year.

The alleged defilement happened at Newtown in Asankragwa of the Amenfi West Municipality.

The suspect, Elorm Tsekpor was arrested and brought before the court on Thursday after a bench warrant was issued for his arrest when he failed to appear before the court in relation to the charges levelled against him.

The case was sent to the Tarkwa Circuit Court after the judge, Augustine Fiifi Donfu explained that his court was not in the position to handle such a case.

Further information states that the suspect has been with GIS since 1999 and is stationed at Asankragwa in the Western Region. He also resides in the same house with the victims and before the incident, he organised a party for them including some other kids in the neighbourhood.

Police Inspector Appiah Bimpong, the prosecutor at the court said one of the victims (10-year-old) fell sick in June and upon several medications, she was not recovering until her mother inspected her privates and suspected someone had sexual intercourse with her.

The victim’s father was also suspicious and questioned her, the victim replied that somewhere in June 2022, the suspect sent one lady to call her and the other victim ( the 9-year-old) to his room for some gifts and in the process, the suspect had sexual intercourse with them.

The prosecution told the court the suspect then warned the victims not to tell anybody about the incident. The father of the 10-year-old victim also conferred with the mother of the 9-year-old victim and upon interrogation, the victim confirmed the matter.

“The parents jointly reported the case to the Asankrangwa police station and medical forms were issued for the victims to be taken to the hospital for examination and endorsement,” Inspector Bimpong stated.
