Last surviving son of Sergent Adjetey dies

Reverend Stephen Okan-Adjetey, the last surviving son of the legendary Sergeant Frederick Cornelius Adjetey of the 28th February 1948 crossroads shooting incident fame, has died.

He died on July 27th, 2021 at the Ridge hospital in Accra after a short illness. His passing comes only a few weeks after celebrating his eightieth birthday.

The Late Rev. Stephen Okan-Adjetey was a retired minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. Until his demise, Rev. Stephen – Okan Adjetey was the point of reference for the media and other entities in relation to his father, Sgt. Cornelius Frederick Adjetey, who, together with Cpl. Attipoe and Private Odartey Lamptey, lost their lives in the February 28, 1948 crossroads shooting incident. The event set the tone for political activism leading to the attainment of Ghana’s independence in 1957.

He was the focal point in the making of the icon documentary “the unarmed soldier” which was aired as part of the 2021 Ghana month celebration by Media General on Tv3.

The Late Rev. Stephen Okan-Adjetey is survived by a wife and six children.
