Mr Joseph Dindiok Kpemka, a former Deputy Attorney General has described as over the bar, the threat by religious groups to vote against any government who throws it weight behind the LGBTQ activities in the country.
Speaking on TV3’s TheKeyPoint on Saturday, October 9, monitored by GhanaPlus.com, he said the comment amount to blackmail.
Mr Kpemka said the religious groups did not need to resort to blackmail to make known their point about the practice.
“The threat for me is over the bar, you don’t blackmail to lobby or to make your opinion clear that let my side of the debate be the victor or suffer political consequences, “Mr kpemka said.
We will vote against you if you vote against LGBTQ+ bill
He was reacting to threat by the Chairman of the Pentecost Church, Apostle Eric Nyamekye on Wednesday, October 6 while presenting a memorandum with 15, 000 signatories to parliament.
The memorandum was to back the anti LGBTQ+ bill currently before parliament.
Other religious groups also presented memos in support of bill on the same day.
Speaking to the media, Apostle Nyamekye said although, the church does not hate LGBTQ+ individuals their practice sought to extinct human race and that was what they abhor.
He mentioned the Pentecost church’s alone constitute 10% of the country’s population and they would use their numbers to support the bill.
He warned the church together with other religious body would vote against any government who vote against the anti LGBTQ+ bill which sought to criminalise to some extent the activities of the community in the country.
“………We are going to cause people to come to the streets and we are going to warn any government that if you vote against this bill we will vote you out, that is it, there is no room for neutrality. This is not political, this is about the future of this nation, and anyone who wants to destroy this nation, we will not allow you to rule us, ” he said .
