VIDEO: Sam George speaks on CNN about Ghana’s LGBTQ+bill

Mr Samuel Nartey George, a Member of Parliament for the Ningo Prapram Constituency and advocate against LGBTQI+ practice in Ghana has taken turn on CNN to speak to the country’s bill on the practice.

Speaking in a  heated interview sighted by GhanaPlus.com, the Ghanaian law maker lay bare the fact about the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021, a bill which seek to protect LGBTQ+  from abuse, provide them treatment  and criminalize the practice as well.

Mr Nartey George also cleared misconception about the bill.

LGBTQ+ in Ghana

LGBTQ+ conversation has emerged again in Ghana following an opposition of the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021, an anti gay bill aim at criminalizing the practice  by a group of Ghanaian elites.

The group made of of the academia, lawyers, journalist among others opined the bill would erode fundamental human rights enshrined in the 1992 constitution when passed.

“The bill violates virtually all the key fundamental freedoms guaranteed under the constitution , namely the right to freedom of speech and expression , the right to assemble , freedom of association and the right to organise , the right to freedom from discrimination and the right to human dignity ,” Mr Ampaw who spoke on behalf of the group at a press conference in Accra said

Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021 seeking is10key point including 3 to 5years or imprisonment for persons found culpable over LGBTQI+ activities.

The bill put together by some Members of Parliament, members of clergy also among other things deny LGBTQ+ individual right to adoption, provide medical assistance and treatment as well as protect them against citizens abuse.
