Media General, owners of TV3, and its sister stations have gifted renowned Journalist and News Anchor, Ms Portia Solomon Gabor, a two bedroom house for wining this year’s Ghana Journalist Association (GJA)’s Journalist of the Year Award.

She was also rewarded with a 10-days all expenses paid trip to South Africa with her family.

Mrs Gabor, a multiple award winning Journalist was adjudged the Journalist of the Year 2021, by the Ghana Journalist Association on Saturday, November 12, at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel in Accra.

She also went home as winner for the Best TV News Production and the Journalist of the Year for Health.

Making a surprise appearance on TV3 New360 on  Monday, November 14, monitored by GhanaPlus.com, the Board Chair of Media General, Prof Kwesi Yankah said the gifts were in recognition of the Mrs Gabor’s work over the years.

“Portia, this is a very simple gift and present to acknowledge our pride in having you come back to the studios with the most coveted award of the Ghana Journalist Association night. We know your worth, you have been recognized a number of times. This is the time that you got the ultimate. We are not saying this should be the last but we want to recognize all that you have done over the years since you entered this profession of journalism. And as you know in Media General, we have a culture of recognizing so it was important for me to come all over and come and say appreciation to you,” he said.

“……On behalf the board and management of Media General, we are going to present you with a two bedroom house”.

…That not all Portia , we are also going to give you and your family a 10-day fully paid vacation to South Africa, on this note congratulations one again and all the best. May your work inspire others,” Prof Yankah added.

Accepting the gifts, Mrs Gabor expressed her gratitude to the board, management and staff of the station as well as all those who worked with her on her award winning stories.

She said she is humbled by the gesture.

“Thank you so much. I am indeed humbled by this gesture and it takes a village to raise a journalist and I share in this will all those that worked along with me, my camera men, management and staff of TV3. 15years ago as I stepped into this premises, I did not know this day will come but I took one day at a time and thank you all for helping me”.

“And I am hoping to raise the next generation of journalists so that we continue to lift each other up,” Ms Gabor shared her dreams going forward.
