MP organises free medical screening for affected communities

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Shama Constituency Lawyer Erickson Abekah in collaboration with Qatar Charity Foundation on Saturday, September 16, organized a free eye screening for all constituents in communities affected by the quarry site explosion last week at Kobinaokrom in the Shama District.

The screening was in three folds, free eye screening, free glasses and free medication.

Addressing the media, the MP said this has become necessary because of the explosion at the quarry site that claimed some lives and injured many entailed gaseous materials which may have a negative impact on the health, especially the eyes of the people.

He said he deemed it necessary to engage specialists to come over to examine and provide medical assistance to residents who may be affected by the explosion.

Due to this, the screening was organised within the Anto Aboso Electoral Area.

The Shama District Director of Health Services, Mrs Judith Naa Deide Okine speaking to the media appealed for support from philanthropists, organisations, NGOs etc. She said the Directorate is doing its best to administer health recovery for the affected people but no one is aiding them.
