New transport fares will be implemented – GPRTU Chairman – Skyy Power FM

Western Regional Chairman for Ghana Private Roads Transport Union (GPRTU), Mr Simon Cudjoe says the new transport fare will be implemented.

Mr Simon speaking exclusively to Skyy News said he has officially received a letter from their head office directing all drivers under the union to implement the news which he believes it will take effect within the week.

He assured Skyy News that, no matter what comes up, the new fares will be implemented since they have officially received a letter.

As of Wednesday, May 17, 2023, shared taxis, intra-city (trotro), inter-city (long distance), and haulage vehicles were to charge the new rates.

According to information acquired by skyypowerfm.com, commercial transportation providers in the city are still using the previous prices.

In contrast to what was announced, the transportation companies maintained that the new tariffs had not officially gone into effect, leaving commuters who had anticipated a cut on Wednesday morning dissatisfied.

Some commercial drivers who spoke to Skyy News separately claimed that despite hearing about the reduction in the media, their leadership had not formally informed them in writing.

Some drivers disputed the drop as well, arguing that other factors including lubricant, maintenance, and replacement parts had increased in price over that time.

Other drivers lamented the exorbitant expense of living, particularly the high cost of food, and said they wouldn’t lower their fees until market vendors followed suit.
