Vida Essel-LampteyThe hearing of the case between #FixTheCountry convener, Oliver Barker-Vormawor and the state took an interesting turn at the Ashaiman District Court on Tuesday, March 15 when it was called.
Justice Srem Sai, who is the lead counsel for Mr Barker-Vormawor, prayed the court to discharge his client after prosecution failed to show up.
He argued that the absence of the prosecution and summary of evidence showed the lack of interest by the state.
But Chief Inspector George Doe prayed the court to give the prosecution an additional hour, to which she denied.
Presiding Magistrate Eleanor Barnes Botwe declined to discharge Oliver Barker Vormawor based on the defense’s application, citing that this was the first time the prosecution had failed to show up in court.
The court adjourned the hearing to Tuesday, March 29 after chastising the prosecution for the absence.
Meanwhile, Oliver Barker-Vormawor’s lawyers application for bail at the Tema High Court will be ruled on Wednesday, March 16.
