Operation Clean Your Surroundings campaign will enforce Assembly's bye-laws

The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) Mr Abdul Issah Mumin says as part of an effort to improve sanitation and hygiene, they have launched a campaign dubbed “OPERATION CLEAN YOUR SURROUNDINGS”.

He said the campaign aims to enforce the Assembly’s environmental sanitation bylaws and raise awareness of cleanliness, hygiene, waste management, and environmental preservation through media coverage and the deployment of a task force.

Mr Abdul Mumin added that the campaign will educate, caution, arrest, prosecute, name and shame sanitation-related offenders across the Metropolis.

The MCE said they ultimately aim to collectively change certain socio-cultural practices from the community members towards environmental sanitation.

He said, “The campaign team will undertake unannounced spot-checks at households, eateries, hotels, pubs and bars, public toilets, transport terminals and others. The first outing of the task force is scheduled for next week. I use this opportunity to urge Hon. Members to continue educating your community members about the campaign and the need to clean their surroundings.”

He made this known at the 3rd Ordinary Meeting of the 4th session of the Eight Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly on Wednesday, December 13.
