Quantity of Ammonium found in bushes at Kobinanokrom

A significant amount of ammonium compounds have been discovered at the Anto Aboso quarry enclave’s tranches according to the Minerals Commission and the Shama District Security Council.

The location, which is home to six quarry operations, raises concerns about the safety of local residents and employees.

The Minerals Commission stated that only businesses with permission were allowed to store such dangerous items in the authorised Magazine area.

According to Mr Ebenezer Dadzie, the Shama District Chief Executive, information led to the finding of the ammonium material yesterday night in the stated bushes, which were covered with quarry dust.

According to him, the assembly had grown concerned about the safety of the surrounding neighbourhoods and the frequent displays of dread by locals, which is why the effort to purge the neighbourhood of these drugs was necessary to prevent any such human mistakes from resulting in accidents and avoidable fatalities.

In this respect, the District Chief Executive Officer ordered the localities to fulfil their civic responsibilities by informing municipal authorities of any questionable activities of local operators so that they may take the appropriate measures.

“We believe, as citizens, we should begin to be active in watching our communities and societies…when we see something, we should say something,” he said.

He added: “I am taking this opportunity to also advise all the quarries operating in the district to voluntarily hand over any such substances in their custody to the assembly for onward transfer to the Minerals Commission.”

The finding of the Substances highlights regulatory inefficiencies, a disregard for civic duty to stop wrongdoing, and the public health effects of storing such lethal explosives in the area’s quarry mining businesses’ storage facilities.
