In spite of the crucial roles played by Queen mothers in the traditional councils, their efforts to be involved in decision-making at the chieftaincy level continues to be overlooked by chiefs and some elders in the Upper East Region.
Queen mothership was first introduced in 2010 through a directive by the government of Ghana to support chiefs in promoting peaceful coexistence as well as participating in decision-making at all levels, but the concept has been oblique for years.
Given that, Queen Mothers in the Upper East Region are calling on the public to support the involvement of Queen Mothers (QMs) and women in decision-making at all levels.
Speaking at a stakeholder forum held in Bolgatanga to outdoor 127 Enskinned Queen Mothers, the Secretary of the Queen Mothers Association in the region, Pognaba Aga-Boka Felicia has urged the government and other stakeholders to support them to facilitate the Gazetting process that will make them fit in the traditional council. Cue.
Speaking to our reporter on the sideline of the forum, Mr Bukari Issah, Executive Director of CODAC mentioned that its important to us as a country to move a step feather to bring women to the front line of decision-making since that has a great potential of repositioning the country on a sound footing.
