Supoman Dunkwa installs New Queen Mother

The chiefs and people of Supomu Dunkwa in the Shama District have successfully installed a new queen mother for the town.

Nana Opetse II as her traditional name succeeded the late Nana Ekua Benewa II.

Known in her private life as Lucy M. E. Blay, the queen has been a philanthropist and a law practitioner for the past thirty years.

The colourful ceremony was held on the 2nd December 2023 in Dunkwa with a traditional rite performed to seal her queenship and recognition.

The event was witnessed by prominent dignitaries in the likes of Nana Kodjo Kundua V (Edina Paramount Chief), Nana Kobina Nketsia (Esikado chief), Obrempong Hima Dekyi (Upper Dixcove), Hon Kobina Okyere Darko Mensah (Western Regional Minister), Hon Samuel Erickson Abekah (Shama MP), Hon Freddie Blay ( Former MP and National Chairman), Hon Asamoah Boateng (Minister for chieftaincy and Religion affairs), Minister Designate for Local Government, Decentralisation And Rural Development, Hon. Dan Botwe, clerk’s, politician’s etc.

The new ruler engaging the media said she would concentrate on residential accommodation for teachers and nurses, prioritize girl child education, and advocate for the regional hospital for Dunkwa.

Minister Designate for Local Government, Decentralisation And Rural Development, Hon. Dan Botwe implored everyone not to forget their root but to constantly stay in touch for sacrifice and do good for the needy. He recounted his experience forty years back when they found themselves in Abidjan as refugees in 1983. Hon Dan Botwe and Hon Asamoah Boateng voted out 1 billion Ghana cedis as seal fun for Nana Opetse Educational Fund

Hon Kobina Okyere Darko Mensah, Western Regional Minister called on the citizens to cooperate and support the Queen Mother in realizing the development goals she has for Esima. He promised to solve the chieftaincy dispute in the Shama traditional council since conflict hinders development and also promised teachers quarters for the good people in Dunkwa

Lawyer Erickson Abekah, Member of Parliament for Shama welcomed Nana Opetse and recounted his experience with her when he joined the the bar
Nana Kobina Nketsia urges Nana Opetse to use her experience as a lawyer and a mother to unite regional chiefs for development.

Nana Kodjo Kundua V Edina Paramount Chief twitted on time management and also applauded Dunkwa council for tranquility installation.

He urges using the opportunity to advise chiefs and Nana Opetse for unity in the Shama traditional council.
