Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly gets new Presiding Member

The new Presiding Member of the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly in the Western Region is Mr. Joseph Kwofie, the Assembly Member representing the Tarkwa Banso Electoral Area.

With thirty-one votes, Mr. Kwofie, the teacher, defeated Mr. Prosper Agbeti, the Assembly member from the Nsuaem Zongo Electoral Area, who was the only other candidate.

Of the 44 assembly members, 42 cast ballots, one was refused, and two were not present.

Mr. Ekow Essien, the Municipal Electoral Officer, oversaw the election, which was held in Ahwitieso.

The new Presiding Member was sworn in by Mr Charles Owusu Nsiah, the Judge of the Tarkwa District Magistrate Court One, to preside over assembly meetings for two years.

The Assembly has convened twice to choose a presiding member. In the first and second rounds of voting at their previous meeting, neither of the two candidates received a two-thirds majority of the vote.

In his victory address, Mr. Kwofie congratulated his colleagues and urged them to set aside their political differences to continue the work that his predecessor had started.

To guarantee that each of Tarkwa Nsuaem’s 30 electoral zones gets an equitable allocation of projects, he pledged to collaborate closely with each assembly member.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Benjamin Kessie, praised the assembly members on their election, saying it showed they will strive to serve the interests of the people.
