“This one what is his height?” : Johnnie Hughes drags Immigration Service over a short man in uniform

TV3’s broadcaster and NewDay host, Mr Johnnie Beresford Hughes has called out the Ghana Immigration Service for breaching their own rules on recruitment of personnel into the service.

Sharing a picture of a man in an Immigration uniform whose height appears way below the 1m.73 metres standard height accepted by the service for males, the renowned broadcaster questioned if he qualified to join the service while thousands were disqualified for same.

“You disqualify people base on height, this one what is his height, what is his height. People go and queue at the El-Wak Sport Stadium 3years ago, 84,000 people, you pick only 500. This one, what is his height? Is he qualified to join Immigration Service? When they say you are corrupt you say no,”. Mr Hughes said.

While their female counterpart on the other hand, required a minimum of 1m.63cm to progress.

Scores of applicants, the report said were also disqualified by officials of the Ghana Immigration Service for multiple piercing and tattoos.

Chief Superintendent Ocran said the service place importance on its standard and that was responsible for the disqualifications.

“There should be no piercing for males, that one will automatically disqualify you because that part of the standard that were set. For female there should be one piecing, if it is more than one you will be disqualified.  With tattoo, visibly we will disqualify you both male and female”.

“You know the uniform has our own language and their basic standard that we set. No tattoo, no piercing, no excessive stretch marks or scar as well as surgical scars,” he said.
