Ultra modern sports complex will develop talents in Anaji – Investor – Skyy Power FM
Mr David Osei Assibey, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the private investor, and CEO of Shelleyco Gas Limited say they are trying to develop the first sports complex in the Western Region which will help nurture talents in different disciplines and not only football.
It was brought to the attention of the Skyy Power FM that, the Assembly Member of Anaji West, who is also the Presiding Member (PM) of Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA), Mr John Davis has allegedly spearheaded the lease of the Anaji CK Mann Park to a private investor.
Mr David Akorful who is the Secretary of the Anaji Estate Resident Association speaking to Skyy News indicated that the land has been leased to a private investor by the State Housing Corporation for 60 years which he intends to develop into an ultra-modern sports complex.
This development has brought unrest among residents of the Anaji Estate community because as stakeholders, they were not consulted hence the hostile reaction.
Mr Assibey speaking to Skyy News said the facility will comprise a standard swimming pool, a basketball court, a gym, an astroturf park and an event centre.
Also, it will help nurture talents among surrounding schools and the community members in different disciplines and not only football.
He said, “Looking at the Anaji community and the surrounding schools, this sports complex will be a key project that will help nurture talents in various fields because the complex will comprise different sports facilities.”
“These facilities are also modern and in order for us to produce talents that can compete in world sports, we will need high-tech facilities and that is what we are trying to do.”
He, however, apologised to the Anaji Estate community for how the whole issue has turned out and hoped to make amends in the next upcoming stakeholder engagement this Sunday.
“We would like to apologise to the Anaji community because things did not go as planned in terms of engaging them and we hope they will agree and accept this project in good faith.”
